It was the most saddest birthday for 22-year-old Navnoor Singh. Just a day earlier, he lost his father, Navjot Singh, in a deadly accident near Delhi Cantonment metro station. His mother, Sandeep Kaur, was badly injured and admitted to hospital, leaving the family shattered.
Navjot Singh’s friends say he always loved surprising others. His last surprise was for his son. Early this morning at 6 am, the doorbell rang and Navnoor received a package. Inside was an air fryer and a shirt his father had ordered for his birthday. Sadly, the gift arrived on the same day Navnoor was preparing to cremate his father.
A Gift with Painful Memories
A devastated Navnoor called his father’s friend, Rishabh, to tell him about the final surprise. When Rishabh asked why Navjot chose an air fryer, Navnoor explained that he had recently started cooking, and his father had noticed it. Rishabh was lost for words. Fighting back tears, Rishabh shared his memories with NDTV. Navjot Singh, 52, worked as a deputy secretary with the Union Finance Minister. He was riding his bike with his wife Sandeep when a speeding BMW hit them from behind. They were taken to hospital, but doctors declared Navjot dead.
Questions Over Hospital Choice
Rishabh described Navjot as a man full of life who loved travelling and planning surprises. “He was like my brother,” he said. “He celebrated every moment and was a brilliant driver. Serious questions are being asked about why the BMW driver, Gaganpreet Kaur, took the injured couple to a hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 19 km away, instead of a nearby facility.
Police Case and Demand for Justice
Gaganpreet Kaur and her husband Parikshit, who was also in the car, have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and hiding evidence. Police sources say the hospital where the victims were taken is partly owned by Gaganpreet’s father. Navjot’s family believes there was an attempt to cover up the case. Gaganpreet has been arrested and is now in judicial custody. Rishabh said he only wants justice for his friend. “Delhi Police can do this. My only demand is justice for Navjot. Accidents can happen, but shouldn’t you call police or an ambulance first? She says she wasn’t thinking clearly, but she could call the hospital to prepare? An ambulance might have reached in five minutes and saved my friend,” he said.
