Patiala. The state government has taken a significant step to strengthen the public transport system in Punjab. On Monday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann flagged off 100 new buses belonging to the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC). The event was held in Patiala, where a large number of citizens and officials were present.

Before arriving at the rally venue, the chief minister visited the PRTC headquarters to flag off these buses. He stated that the government’s objective is to provide the people of the state with better, affordable, and accessible transport facilities. The addition of these new buses will enhance passenger convenience and facilitate easier travel, even in remote areas.

Assurance Given Regarding Power Supply

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also provided assurances regarding the power supply. He stated that adequate coal reserves are available at the state’s thermal power plants, ensuring that the power supply will remain uninterrupted during the upcoming summer season.

Making political statements, the Chief Minister also took a dig at leaders of opposition parties. He remarked that while some individuals may have studied in elite schools, true Punjabi culture is best learned in the villages. He added that he himself hails from a village background, and it is there that he imbibed his culture and values.

More Buses to be Added Soon

The Transport Minister stated that by adding over a thousand new buses—including those under the Kilometer Scheme—to the PRTC and Panbus fleets, the state’s transport infrastructure is being geared up to meet future requirements. The government believes that this initiative will not only provide convenience to passengers but also boost public transport in the state and reduce dependence on private vehicles.

According to the government’s plan, a total of 606 buses are set to be added to the Panbus fleet. Of these, 387 new buses will be added directly. Additionally, under the Kilometer Scheme, 19 Volvo buses, 100 air-conditioned buses, and 100 ordinary buses will also be inducted into the fleet.
