National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Japan to participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. The PM is on a two-day visit to Japan. PM Modi was given a grand welcome upon his arrival in Japan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Japan’s Haneda International Airport at 5:40 am Indian time. After this, an important business program will be held from 10:30 am to 10:50 am. Then from 11:30 am to 1:10 pm, Prime Minister Modi will meet prominent dignitaries of Japan. Between 1:15 pm and 1:20 pm, Prime Minister Modi will be presented a Daruma doll by the chief priest of Shorinzan Daruma Ji Temple. After this, the India-Japan Annual Summit will be held again from 2:30 pm to 5:15 pm.
Four-day visit to two countries
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a four-day visit to two countries, Japan and China, from Friday. During this visit, the emphasis is likely to be mainly on encouraging trade and investment with Japan and normalizing relations with China. This visit is taking place at a time when relations between India and America have soured due to US President Donald Trump’s trade and tariff policies. Before leaving for the visit, Prime Minister Modi expressed hope on Thursday night that this foreign visit will strongly advance the country’s interests and priorities.
Possibility of agreement on defense and technology cooperation
Prime Minister Modi had said before leaving that I am confident that my visits to Japan and China will not only strengthen India’s national interests and priorities but will also play an important role in promoting peace, security and development at the regional and global levels. During his visit to Japan on August 29-30, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the annual summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. In this important meeting to be held on the first day of the visit, Japan is expected to announce the doubling of its investment in India. Also, many agreements are likely to be signed between the two countries to increase cooperation in defense, technology and other key areas.
Increase in bilateral trade and investment
Before leaving for Japan, PM Modi said that the special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan has to be given a new direction. Our bilateral relations have made steady progress in the last 11 years. We are committed to expanding not only economic and investment cooperation but will also work together in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and other emerging technologies. The Prime Minister said that this visit will prove to be an important opportunity to further strengthen the cultural and civilizational ties between India and Japan.
Under the second phase of the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Chinese city of Tianjin to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on 31 August and 1 September. He said that I am excited to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other top leaders during this summit. He is likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday, where the two leaders can discuss measures to reduce tensions arising after the border dispute in eastern Ladakh and normalize bilateral relations.
