Iconic Bollywood actor Dharmendra, who passed away on 24 November, was born in Punjab and deeply connected to its soil. To honour him, local sculptor Iqbal Singh Gill from village Manuke in Moga district is preparing a life-sized statue. He believes Dharmendra was a man rooted in Punjabi culture and must be remembered for generations. The artist said that Dharmendra may no longer be physically present, but he will live forever in the hearts of Punjabis.


How Much Will The Statue Cost And Who Is Funding It?

Iqbal Singh revealed that the statue will cost approximately ₹1 lakh. Interestingly, he is fully funding the project himself as a mark of respect. He said this is not a commercial project but an emotional tribute to the legendary actor. According to him, art can preserve memories in ways words cannot. The statue is expected to be completed within one week.

The statue’s height and width will match Dharmendra’s actual physical measurements. Iqbal Singh is carefully studying his body structure to bring realism to the artwork. He wants it to capture not only Dharmendra’s appearance but also his personality. The statue will be displayed in Iqbal’s art gallery in Punjab once completed.

Iqbal Singh Gill is a passionate sculptor who developed an interest in the art form during childhood. He created his first statue, that of Gautam Buddha, at the age of 20. Alongside farming, he chose sculpture as both his passion and profession. Over time, his work has gained recognition across India and abroad.

Yes, Iqbal has crafted statues of several famous personalities including former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, athlete Milkha Singh, singer Sidhu Moosewala, Baba Laddi Shah, and wrestler Sandeep Nangal Ambian. He has also created statues of many martyrs and well-known figures. His sculptures have been installed with great respect in different parts of India and overseas.

Known as Bollywood’s “He-Man”, Dharmendra remained deeply connected to Punjabi heritage. Though he became a superstar in Mumbai, he often acknowledged his roots.
