New Delhi: The legendary story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is set to reach the big screen, with actor Rishab Shetty stepping into the role of the iconic Maratha ruler in an ambitious two-part historical film titled The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The project brings together T-Series chairman Bhushan Kumar, filmmaker Sandeep Singh and Rishab Shetty for a cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj. The film will explore his military achievements, leadership, strategic brilliance and determination to establish Swarajya.
With Shetty taking on the central role, the project has attracted attention for its ambitious scale and subject. The actor, known for his powerful performances and screen presence, will portray one of India’s most celebrated historical figures.
A century-old painting marks the announcement
To mark the announcement of the collaboration, Bhushan Kumar presented Rishab Shetty with a painting of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj believed to be around 100 years old. The gesture symbolised respect for the Maratha ruler’s legacy and the team’s commitment to bringing his story to audiences through cinema.
What will the two-part historical saga explore?
The film will go beyond Shivaji Maharaj’s famous battles and victories, covering important moments from his life, sacrifices, military campaigns and lesser-known chapters of his journey. It will highlight his warfare strategies, diplomatic understanding, leadership qualities and determination to establish Swarajya.
The makers aim to present these aspects through a large-scale cinematic narrative while introducing younger generations to the historical contributions and ideals associated with Shivaji Maharaj.
The production will involve artists and technical professionals from India and overseas, with the team planning to create a cinematic experience aimed at audiences both within the country and internationally.
Bhushan Kumar calls the project a tribute to India’s heritage
Speaking about the film, Bhushan Kumar said Maharashtra and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have given the country a remarkable historical legacy that deserves recognition and respect.
He explained that when Sandeep Singh narrated the story, he realised the responsibility involved in bringing such an important chapter of Indian history to the screen. Kumar also expressed confidence in Rishab Shetty’s ability to portray the legendary ruler.
He added that the project is not merely another film for T-Series but a tribute to the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the values of courage, vision and Swarajya.
Production preparations underway for 2027
The film is currently in the pre-production stage, with shooting scheduled to begin in early 2027. The project is being developed as a two-part historical saga, with extensive preparations underway for its production.
The screenplay has been written by Rishi Virmani and Sandeep Singh, who will also direct the film.
Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series Films, the project is being produced under the banners of T-Series Films and Legend Studios. Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar are the producers, while Rishab Shetty, Shiv Chanana and Kabir Sadanand are attached as co-producers.
