New Delhi: Surendra Kumar Gupta, senior vice-president of the Indraprastha province of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and chairman of the Indraprastha Punarjagran Nyas, has appealed to the Hindu community to stay away from a proposed political rally, citing concerns over the dignity of religious festivals and the livelihoods of traders.
Gupta urged saints, religious leaders, temple committees, social organisations and citizens to raise awareness about the potential impact of large political gatherings during festivals.
Festivals and Traders’ Livelihoods in Focus
Gupta said festivals represent more than religious rituals, describing them as an important part of India’s civilisation, cultural identity and social traditions. He noted that festive periods bring increased activity to markets and provide important business opportunities for traders.
He argued that the possible effects of major public events on these celebrations and local businesses should be carefully considered before such gatherings are organised.
Gupta Questions the Priorities Behind the Rally
Questioning the reasoning behind the proposed event, Gupta asked why the dignity of Hindu festivals and the concerns of traders had not received sufficient attention if the rally was intended as a political protest against a party.
He maintained that peaceful protest is a democratic right, but said political activities should also take religious sentiments and the convenience of ordinary citizens into account.
Remarks on Rahul Gandhi’s Statement
Gupta also referred to Rahul Gandhi’s statement and questioned the issue of linking the demand to cancel the rally with a demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He called for public discussion on the developments surrounding the proposed event.
Appeal for Peaceful Democratic Expression
Gupta urged members of the Hindu community not to participate in the rally and instead express their disagreement peacefully and democratically.
He clarified that his appeal was not intended to promote hatred against any community, but was focused on respecting religious faith, cultural traditions and the interests of traders.
