New Delhi: A long-standing personal feud turned fatal in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area, where a man was shot dead during a gathering involving alcohol. Police have arrested two accused, including the alleged main shooter, Kamal Goswami. Investigators suspect the shooting was carried out to avenge a murder committed in 2021. The weapon allegedly used in the crime and a white Maruti Swift used to escape have also been recovered.
Old Rivalry Turns a Gathering into a Crime Scene
According to police, the incident took place at around 11 pm near Divine Hospital in Lane No. 14, Sangam Vihar, in the Wazirabad area. The victim, identified as Ravi, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a hospital with the help of an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV). He had two visible gunshot wounds and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
What Triggered the Fatal Shooting?
During the investigation, police found that Ravi was an accused in a 2021 murder case registered at Netaji Subhash Place Police Station in the North-West District under FIR No. 14/21. He had been released on bail in October 2026.
Police suspect that Kamal Goswami, who was also present at the gathering, had links to a person associated with the earlier murder case. Investigators believe the old rivalry prompted him to allegedly plan the attack as an act of revenge.
According to the preliminary account, the group had been drinking and was sitting inside a car, talking, when Kamal allegedly stepped out of the vehicle and opened fire at Ravi.
Weapon and Escape Vehicle Recovered
Police have arrested Kamal Goswami and Monu, both residents of Wazirpur, in connection with the incident. The pistol allegedly used in the shooting and the white Maruti Swift car bearing registration number DL9CBA8510, reportedly used to flee the scene, have been recovered.
Investigators are continuing their probe to identify other suspects and establish their respective roles in the murder.
