New Delhi: US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the US will not attack Iran again before the midterm elections on November 3. Campaigning for Republican candidates this week, Trump indicated he was confident the decisive phase of the war could end before or immediately after the election.

He also indicated he was keeping open the option of resuming a large-scale military campaign against Iran. However, Trump said in a social media post that the US would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections.

‘US must end the war with Iran by any means necessary’

Earlier, the White House had directed the US Department of Defense to prepare options for an attack on Iran before the midterm congressional elections. The Atlantic reported this on Wednesday, citing two administration officials. Trump had said on Tuesday that the US must end the ongoing conflict with Iran “by any means necessary.”

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) is reportedly developing these plans, and discussions are still ongoing on the scope and objectives of potential attacks. Reports suggest the move reflects Trump’s desire to achieve progress on the conflict and reduce gasoline prices before the midterm elections.

Iran has not halted nuclear industry activities

Meanwhile, Iran has not stopped the activities of its nuclear industry. Iran’s Vice President and head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Islami, said this on Wednesday. According to AEOI, Islami said on the occasion of the inauguration of a pediatric cancer diagnosis and treatment center in Tehran, “Iran’s nuclear industry is being subjected to pressure, sanctions, threats and attacks, but Iran has been successful in maintaining its development.”

He said that the AEOI views healthcare and food security as strategic priorities for Iran’s development. Despite numerous pressures and sanctions, the organization continues its development work. Islami added that pressure is accompanied by accusations against Iran, which even those making the accusations know do not reflect reality. Despite this, employees of Iran’s nuclear industry are performing their duties appropriately.
