Violence Erupts Again on Afghanistan–Pakistan Border; Heavy Firing in Spin Boldak Forces Civilians to Flee Homes

New Delhi:  The border between Afghanistan and Pakistan has once again been rocked by gunfire and explosions. A sudden clash between the armies of the two countries in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province has spread panic among the local population. What began as light weapons fire gradually escalated to heavy weapons, causing panic in villages on both sides of the Durand Line.

According to local sources, the situation has become so tense that many families fled their homes overnight for safer areas. Afghan border police have also confirmed that the fighting is extremely intense, with gunfire and rockets being heard continuously.

How did the conflict begin?

Afghan Border Police spokesman Abdullah Farooqui claimed that the clashes began on the Pakistani side. He said Pakistani troops suddenly threw a grenade while Afghan forces were observing a ceasefire.

According to Farooqui, Afghan troops returned fire after Pakistani forces broke the ceasefire. This led to heavy weaponry from both sides. Local residents reported that several mortars fired from Pakistan landed in civilian areas, damaging homes and causing panic.

Spin Boldak: An old hotbed of tension

Spin Boldak is a key border point for trade and people-to-people exchanges. However, the area has long been a focus of disputes and violent clashes between the two countries. Local sources say the intensity of the firing is unusually high this time, and Pakistani forces are consistently targeting civilian areas.

The long-standing dispute over the Durand Line also frequently creates tension. Afghanistan does not recognize this line, while Pakistan claims it as the official border.

Steps taken by the Taliban administration?

The Taliban government has yet to issue a detailed statement. However, local authorities have urged people to move to safer locations. Medical teams have been put on alert, and ambulances have been dispatched to affected areas to handle any emergencies.
