Airbus A320 is the most widely used aircraft in the world and a major safety concern has recently been detected. Reports mention that during a system switch, the onboard computer processed corrupt data caused by solar interference. The aircraft was forced to make an emergency diversion to Tampa Airport where several passengers suffered injuries. After detailed inspection, experts confirmed that solar radiation can impact altitude, direction and stability related flight data. Airbus later accepted the risk and issued global instructions.
What Exactly Causes This Disruption?
The sun occasionally releases plasma and charged particles at extremely high speed towards space which is known as a Coronal Mass Ejection. When these particles reach Earth’s atmosphere they affect satellites and high-altitude electronic systems including navigation and flight control equipment. At around 28,000 feet or more, this interference becomes stronger. A similar disturbance was recorded in 2003 affecting navigation on LA to New York flight routes. Experts say that increased solar activity has made such risks more frequent and upgrades are necessary.

No flights have been cancelled so far, but many are facing delays between 60 and 90 minutes. Airlines have started releasing precautionary updates and minor schedule adjustments. As per statements, passenger safety is given highest priority. Air India confirmed that around 40 percent of its A320 fleet has already completed upgrades and more aircraft will be processed soon.
