New Delhi: In a crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three people, including an SFIO deputy director-level official, in an alleged ₹1 crore bribery case. The other arrested individuals include a Delhi-based advocate and another private person. The case involves allegations of demanding a bribe in exchange for providing undue benefits in the Serious Fraud Investigation Office’s (SFIO) probe into the DHFL scam.

According to the CBI, the complainant alleged that a bribe of ₹1 crore was demanded in exchange for favourable assistance in an investigation being conducted by the SFIO’s Chennai office. A case was registered against the SFIO official, an advocate and others in connection with the alleged corruption.

CBI Lays Trap After Verifying Complaint

After verifying the complaint and registering an FIR, the CBI laid a trap to catch the accused. During the operation, the Delhi-based advocate was allegedly caught accepting ₹20 lakh from the complainant.

According to the investigating agency, the amount was the first instalment of the alleged ₹1 crore bribe and was being collected on behalf of the SFIO official. Subsequently, the deputy director-level official, the advocate and another private individual were arrested.

Searches Yield Crucial Evidence

Following the arrests, the CBI searched the premises of the government official and the advocate. The agency reported recovering incriminating material related to the case.

The CBI is now investigating the alleged bribery network, the demand for money and the transactions involved. The agency has stated that the investigation is ongoing and that further action will be taken based on the facts and evidence that emerge during the probe.
