New Delhi: In times of crisis, it is awareness and self-confidence—not panic—that prove useful. With this message, the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) of the Delhi Police organized a one-day self-defense and safety awareness workshop at Sachdeva Public School in Pitampura. Around 260 students participated enthusiastically, learning vital skills ranging from personal safety to protecting themselves in challenging situations. The event was held at the school, located in the FP Block of Maurya Enclave, under the supervision of SPUWAC DCP Neha Yadav. The objective was to foster a sense of safety awareness, self-confidence, and self-reliance among the students. During the program, students were taught the importance of remaining vigilant about their safety in any situation and how recognizing potential threats in time can prevent major trouble.
Beyond theory: Practical self-defense training
The workshop provided students with information on personal safety, situational awareness, immediate responses during emergencies, and necessary precautions for self-protection. Trainers also gave practical demonstrations of various basic self-defense techniques. Students learned how to prioritize their safety and maintain self-confidence instead of panicking during challenging situations. A special emphasis was placed on the fact that safety is not merely a matter of physical strength; vigilance, presence of mind, and timely action are equally crucial.
Guidance on safety ‘Dos and Don’ts’
Awareness leaflets outlining important ‘dos and don’ts’ regarding personal safety were also distributed to the students. Through these leaflets, they were informed about simple and practical safety measures applicable to daily life. Students were advised not to ignore any unsafe, suspicious, or unusual situations they might encounter. In such instances, they were encouraged to immediately seek help from a trusted person and report the incident to the concerned authorities or the police.
Making Awareness, Preparedness, and Confidence the Mantra for Safety
During the workshop, students were informed that awareness, preparedness, self-confidence, and timely action are crucial for personal safety. They were encouraged to remain vigilant about their surroundings and to act sensibly during any emergency. The Delhi Police’s Special Police Unit for Women and Children regularly organizes such awareness and self-defense programs in educational institutions. These programs aim not only to raise awareness about safety among children and students but also to equip them to face challenging situations with confidence and good judgment.
