Mathura: The Mathura Police have achieved significant success in their efforts to locate lost and stolen mobile phones. Joint teams comprising the surveillance cell and various police stations recovered 543 mobile phones using technical resources. The estimated value of the recovered phones is around ₹2 crore. So far, the police have handed over 311 phones to their rightful owners, while the remaining 232 will also be returned soon.
On Sunday, SP (Crime) Shweta Yadav briefed the media about the operation at the Police Lines. She stated that a campaign was conducted to recover mobile phones lost between May 12 and September 30, 2026. The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal was utilized to trace the devices. Additionally, the phones were recovered by gathering location data and technical information through surveillance. Coordination was also established with police forces in other states upon receiving information that the phones were being used there.
The Vrindavan police station led the recovery efforts, retrieving 140 mobile phones. Other recoveries included 72 phones from the Govardhan police station area, 64 from the Tourism police station, 42 from Kotwali, 39 from Kosikalan, 22 from Jait, and 20 from the Highway police station area. Lost and stolen phones were also recovered from other police station areas across the district.
The police action brought relief to individuals who had been waiting a long time to get their mobile phones back. Faces lit up with joy as the phones were returned to them. The owners expressed their gratitude to the Mathura Police for recovering and restoring their devices. According to police officials, the CEIR portal, technical surveillance, the active role of the surveillance cell, and the coordination between the police station and other units played a crucial role in the success of the mobile recovery drive.
