Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 13 districts across Bihar, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. The severe weather, driven by active monsoon conditions, is expected to impact 85 blocks across the state into late Tuesday evening.

What are the key areas affected?

The weather warning covers several key regions, with severe weather conditions expected in Patna district, where heavy rain and lightning are predicted in 16 blocks, including Barh, Mokama, Masaurhi, Fatuha, Bakhtiyarpur, and Paliganj. IMD has also given full alerts across entire districts, like all blocks in Jehanabad, Arwal, and Nalanda on high alert.

Other affected districts consist of the specific blocks in Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Rohtak, Lakhisarai, Samastipur, Sheikhpura, Begusarai, and Bhojpur. Forecasts indicate wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 km/h during thunderstorms.

What is Driving the Weather Pattern?

According to meteorologists, an upper-air cyclonic circulation that developed over northern Jharkhand and adjoining areas of Bihar has begun to weaken. However, increased monsoonal activity over the past 24 hours has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures. While night temperatures are expected to remain steady, daytime temperatures could rise by 2°C to 4°C over the next two days.
