New Delhi. The AATS (Anti-Auto Theft Squad) team of the Delhi Police has dealt a major blow to an interstate gang that stole vehicles in Delhi-NCR and disposed of them in Punjab. The Central District Police arrested Shamsher (33) and Rinku, alias Rinki (39), from Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, Punjab, and recovered five stolen cars—four Hyundai Cretas and one Maruti Suzuki Dzire. This operation has led to the resolution of five vehicle theft cases.
Evading police using fake number plates
Rohit Rajveer Singh, DCP (Central District), stated that the case originated on October 14 in the Rajinder Nagar police station area, where a white Hyundai Creta parked outside a house was stolen. Following the filing of an e-FIR, the AATS of the Central District initiated an investigation. Based on manual intelligence and technical surveillance, the police tracked the suspects to Punjab. On October 16, a raid was conducted, resulting in the arrest of both individuals. The stolen vehicles were recovered based on information provided by them.
According to the police, the accused would steal well-maintained vehicles from Delhi-NCR during the night. They would then attach fake number plates to the vehicles, transport them to Punjab, and sell them through their network of contacts. The police are currently searching for other members of the gang, as well as an alleged buyer named Harpreet, alias Happy. The operation was carried out under the leadership of Inspector Sandeep Dabas. The team included SI Ajay, SI Rahul Dhama, Head Constables Anuj and Priyank, and Constables Gautam, Kunal, Rohan, Pushpendra, Ram Avtar, Parvinder, and Vinod. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Padam Singh Rana. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
