New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15. Shubman Gill has been named captain, while KL Rahul will serve as vice-captain. Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan have also been included in the squad, although their participation will be subject to fitness clearance.
What did the BCCI say?
The BCCI has announced the team for the Test series against Sri Lanka. A total of 15 players have been named in the team, captained by Shubman Gill. Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar was unavailable for the first Test due to injury and has therefore been omitted from the squad. Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharshan have been included in the squad, but their participation will depend on their fitness.
What about Saransh Jain?
Saransh Jain got a chance in place of Washington Sundar. The spin-bowling all-rounder suffered an injury during the white-ball tour of England earlier this month. He was ruled out of the third ODI due to the injury. Since then, there have been reports that Sundar would also miss the Test series against Sri Lanka. Now, off-spinner Saransh Jain, who has received his first Test call-up, has been added to the Test team in his place.
What about Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan?
The fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan is also in question ahead of this Test series. Both will only be included in the squad after receiving fitness clearance. Bumrah also suffered an injury during the ODI series in England. He suffered knee swelling before the third ODI, which kept him out of the final match.
