Mumbai: The trailer of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has sparked widespread debate on social media over the casting of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash. While many fans have applauded Yash’s portrayal of Ravana, others have questioned Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Ram. Amid the mixed reactions, actress Dipika Chikhlia, who famously portrayed Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has voiced her support for Ranbir Kapoor, backing the actor against the criticism.

Did Dipika Chikhlia support Ranbir Kapoor?

During a podcast, veteran actress Dipika Chikhlia clearly stated that it’s wrong to judge Ranbir Kapoor solely based on the film ‘Animal’ and also openly expressed her opinion on Sai Pallavi’s portrayal of Sita.

What did Dipika say?

During the podcast, when Dipika was asked about Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film, Ramayana, and about the cast, the actress defended the actor and stated that the job of an actor is to play different types of characters.

“He’s an actor. It’s not like we descended from above. It’s a great thing for an actor to be able to play varied characters. Someone who can do Barfi can also do Animal. Someone who can do Animal can also play Ram. Imagine his good luck that he got these kinds of roles. He’s very lucky, and it’s very good that he’s doing it,” she said while defending Ranbir Kapoor.

Did Dipika express confidence in Sai Pallavi?

While some people on social media are raising questions about Sai Pallavi playing Sita, Deepika has full confidence in her acting.

The actress said, “I’ve seen several of Sai Pallavi’s South films. She’s a brilliant actress. Why should I judge someone’s project before it’s released? Let the film come out, and I’m sure she’ll do a great job.”

However, she also said that everyone has their own imagination about the character of Sita, and only after the release of the film will it be known how Sai looks in that role.’

What did Dipika say about the film?

Dipika Chikhlia described ‘Ramayana’ as the biggest project in Indian cinema and said that this fusion of Bollywood and South Indian cinema could prove to be historic for Indian cinema. According to her, the film’s reported budget of Rs 4000 crore will allow the makers to showcase the war scenes and grand sets in a more spectacular way than ever before.

“Such a large budget is a tremendous asset in itself. When you have such resources, you can bring an epic to the screen with the same grandeur. I am confident that this film will be worth watching,” she said

What about Ramayana’s release date?

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ will be released in two parts. The first part of the film, ‘Ramayana: Part 1’, will be released in theaters worldwide on the auspicious occasion of Diwali 2026.
