According to Panchang calculations, Purnima Tithi will start from the morning of 27th August and will continue till the morning of 28th August. Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on 28th August based on Udaya Tithi.

Will Rakshabandhan not be celebrated on 27th August?

Due to the start of Purnima Tithi on 27th August, there is confusion at some places regarding this date. However, in determining the dates of religious festivals, the date present at the time of sunrise is given special importance. Since the full moon day falls on the morning of 28th August, it has been decided to celebrate Rakshabandhan on the same day. Many almanacs and astrological calculations are also giving the date of the festival as 28th August.

When will Purnima Tithi start and end?

According to the Panchang, the full moon date of Shravan Shukla Paksha will start on August 27 at around 9:08 am and will continue till August 28 at around 9:48 am. Therefore, on the morning of 28th August, there will be enough time available for the tradition of tying Rakhi on brother’s wrist. Will Bhadra also have any effect on Rakhi this time?

The timing of Bhadra is also considered while deciding the date of Rakshabandhan, as tradition recommends avoiding tying Rakhi during Bhadra. According to the available Panchang information, there will be no influence of Bhadra at the time of tying Rakhi on the morning of 28th August. This is the reason why the prescribed time of morning is considered favorable for tying Rakhi.

How is the ritual of worshiping brother and sister performed?

On the day of Rakshabandhan, sisters decorate the puja thali. In this, Roli or Kumkum, Akshat, lamp and sweets are kept along with Rakhi.
