Vrindavan (Mathura): A major accident occurred on Friday morning in the under-construction Omaxe Mall in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. The shuttering in the mall located in Rukmani Vihar suddenly collapsed and four workers got buried under it. Three labourers died in the accident, while one labourer is seriously injured. He has been referred to SN Medical College, Agra for better treatment. As soon as information about the accident was received, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and conducted relief operations.
How did the accident happen at around seven in the morning?
According to the information, workers were engaged in shuttering work at around 7 in the morning in the under construction ‘Vrindavan Courtyard Mall’ of Omaxe near Rukmani Vihar roundabout. Meanwhile the shuttering broke and fell down. This sudden incident created chaos at the construction site. Four labourers were buried under the debris.
How did the colleagues rescue the workers from the debris?
Immediately after the accident, other laborers and employees present there started rescue operations. On receiving information, police and fire teams also reached the spot. All four labourers trapped under the debris were pulled out. One labourer died on the spot, while the remaining injured were sent to the hospital for treatment. Two more labourers died during treatment.
Which workers became victims of the accident?
According to the police, the deceased include Raful and Alam, residents of Cooch Behar in West Bengal and Shivram, resident of Kailali district of Nepal. The injured labourer has been identified as Dildar Singh. He has suffered serious head injury. After first aid he was sent to SN Medical College, Agra.
How did a labourer survive?
Five labourers were working at the construction site at the time of the accident. One of these workers had gone from there to another place for some time. Due to this reason he was saved from falling shutters. According to local people, work has been going on at the construction site for the last three years and a large number of labourers work there every day.
Did police and administration officials reach the spot?
As soon as information about the accident was received, police and administration officials reached the spot. SP City Rajiv Kumar Singh said that four labourers were buried due to falling shuttering. Everyone was taken out from the debris. Of these, three have died, while one injured labourer has been referred to Agra. At present the injured is undergoing treatment.
Are questions raised about security arrangements at the construction site?
After the incident of shuttering falling in the building under construction, questions have also been raised regarding the security arrangements. The accident happened when construction work was going on and the workers were busy in casting. At present the real reason for the accident has not been revealed. The situation will become clear only after investigation as to why the shuttering broke and to what extent safety standards were being followed at the construction site.
