New Delhi: The Yamuna River is flowing above normal flood status at a water level of 204.79 meters at the railway bridge in the North Delhi district, and its water level is estimated to be 205.36 meters at 2 pm today. According to the warning, the water may cross the danger mark by this evening. The commission has advised the authorities to keep a vigil in their respective areas and take necessary action, such as warning people living near the embankments of the river and making arrangements to shift them to safer places. Officials said that the water level of Yamuna was 204.61 meters at 9 am on Wednesday.

Rescue of people started at 206 meters

The warning mark in Delhi is 204.5 meters, while the danger mark is 205.3 meters. When the water level reaches 206 meters, people start to be taken to safe places. The old railway bridge is a major observation point to monitor the flow of the river and the risks of possible floods.

How much water is being released from which barrage?

An official of the central flood room said that the main reason for the increase in the water level is the release of large amounts of water every hour from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrages. The water level is expected to rise further. According to the flood control department, about 37,230 cusecs of water is being released every hour from Wazirabad and about 52,448 cusecs from Hathinikund barrage. The water released from the barrage usually takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi. The water level of Yamuna is rising despite less water being released from the upper areas.
