Chandigarh: Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam, a close aide of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and the main shooter, has finally been brought back to India. Punjab Police extradited him from Republic of Moldova and brought him to Delhi on Saturday morning. Amritpal was hiding abroad for a long time and a Red Corner Notice was also issued against him. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav informed about this action through social media. According to the police, this is the first extradition done by Punjab Police from any European country.
How to leave India with the help of fake name and passport?
According to the police, Amritpal Singh had absconded from India in the last days of October 2024. He used a fake passport to leave the country. This passport was issued from Chandigarh and showed his identity as Gurpal Singh.
After leaving India he reached UAE. After this he changed the path of many countries and finally reached Moldova. Police and central agencies were keeping an eye on his activities during this period.
How did you get caught in Moldova while trying to go to Ukraine?
After reaching Moldova, Amritpal could not escape the attention of the police there for long. According to the police, he was trying to go to Ukraine via Otasi State Border. Meanwhile, Moldovan officials caught him.
The process of bringing him to India after his arrest was not easy. Punjab Police had to complete the legal process in coordination with central agencies and concerned agencies of Moldova. After several months of proceedings, the way for his extradition was cleared.
How did the operation last for six months?
Punjab Police conducted a secret intelligence operation for about six months to arrest Amrit Dalam. During this period, information related to his activities, contacts and locations was collected. Central and international agencies also cooperated with the police in this work.
As the investigation progressed, inputs were received regarding his location and action was taken in Moldova. After this, preparations began to bring him back to India through legal process. Eventually the police team took him to India through the transit route of Baku, Azerbaijan.
Amritpal is accused in how many criminal cases in Punjab?
According to police records, a total of 21 criminal cases are registered against Amritpal Singh in Punjab. These include cases related to murder, extortion and organized crime. He was wanted by the police for a long time in these cases and due to his living abroad, it was a challenge for the investigating agencies to catch him.
Of these 21 cases, four cases are in the trial stage, while the remaining 17 cases are still under investigation. For the police, his return to India is considered important for the investigation of these cases and further legal action.
Will the network linked to Jaggu Bhagwanpuria also be investigated?
Amrit Dalam has been described as the main shooter of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. In such a situation, after coming back to India, he can also be interrogated regarding matters related to his criminal network and other accused. The police will try to find out with whom he had contacts while absconding abroad and whether he was conducting any criminal activity from outside.
Punjab Police says that action will continue with the help of international agencies against the accused who try to escape the law by fleeing abroad. DGP Gaurav Yadav has also said that no matter where the criminals hide in the world, the police will continue to make efforts to bring them before the law.
