New Delhi: South District Cyber Police has busted an interstate cyber fraud gang that allegedly lured people with promises of huge profits through easy online tasks and cryptocurrency investments on Telegram groups. Three accused have been arrested from Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, in connection with the case. The investigation revealed that the fraud proceeds were routed through multiple mule bank accounts and attempts were made to move the money through cryptocurrency/USDT.
South District DCP Anant Mittal said the case came to light after a victim approached the police and reported that he had come into contact with cyber fraudsters through Telegram. The fraudsters allegedly promised him substantial profits for completing online tasks and investing in cryptocurrency. Believing their claims, the victim transferred a total of Rs 7,86,300 in two instalments to accounts provided by the accused. The payments included Rs 4,66,300 and Rs 3,20,000. After receiving the money, the accused neither provided the promised profits nor returned the principal amount. They subsequently stopped communicating with the victim.
Based on the complaint, e-FIR No. 0149/2025 was registered under Sections 318(4)/319/340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Cyber Police Station South, and an investigation was launched. Cyber Police then used technical investigation and financial analysis of bank accounts to trace the flow of funds. By connecting the various money trails, investigators identified bank accounts being used to move the fraud proceeds. The investigation revealed that Rs 4.66 lakh had been credited to one mule account, while Rs 5.22 lakh had reached another account.
Two Accused Arrested in Uttarakhand
During the investigation, the police team analysed suspicious bank accounts and digital activities. Based on the findings, Karan Biswas and Mohit Sarkar alias Monu were arrested from Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. No previous criminal record has been found against either of them.
The next stage of the investigation led the police to Vinay Mandal, who was already in custody in connection with another cyber fraud case registered at Cyber Crime Police Station, Rohtak, Haryana. South District Cyber Police formally arrested him in the present case and obtained a three-day police custody remand from the court.
Mule Bank Accounts Arranged for Commission
According to police, the accused allegedly lured people through Telegram-based tasks and cryptocurrency investment schemes. Instead of receiving the victims’ money directly in their own accounts, mule bank accounts were allegedly used. These accounts were reportedly arranged through intermediaries in exchange for commissions.
Once the fraud proceeds reached these accounts, attempts were allegedly made to transfer the money to different accounts, withdraw it in cash and further use it through cryptocurrency/USDT.
Mobile Phones and Bank Passbook Recovered
Police recovered two mobile phones, a Canara Bank passbook and important digital and financial evidence linked to the cyber fraud from the possession of the accused. Investigators are examining the devices and financial records to identify other people associated with the gang and trace the complete network through which the fraud proceeds were routed.
Police Team Uncovers the Fraud Network
The entire operation was carried out under the leadership of Inspector Hansraj Swami, SHO, Cyber Police Station South. The team included SI Raj Kumar Singh, Head Constable Sunil Kumar Bairwa and Head Constable Rajkumar Bairwa.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP Operations Balram Singh Beniwal. According to South District Police, further investigation is underway, and investigators are questioning the arrested accused to identify other individuals linked to the cyber fraud network and trace the financial transaction trail.
