Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday criticised opposition parties for using offensive words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during Congress’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar. He said such behaviour shows the opposition has lost public support. The remarks came after a video went viral showing allegedly disrespectful comments about PM Modi and his late mother at a rally in Darbhanga on Thursday, during Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
Accusations Against Opposition Parties
Yogi Adityanath said, “Whether it is Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), or Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), these are the same people who created chaos when they were in power. They misused their positions to benefit their families. He added, “Now that they realise people are not supporting them, they are using abusive language in politics. Opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party and the INDI Alliance are an anti-India alliance, CM Yogi added.
Condemnation by BJP Leaders
Supporting the criticism, Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy called the incident “shameful and unfortunate.” He said, “It is very sad that such talks happened at a rally attended by Rahul Gandhi, MK Stalin, and others. Even though they say they were not present, it is wrong that Rahul Gandhi and MK Stalin did not condemn the act. It seems they are encouraging it. Abusing PM’s mother is like disrespecting Mother India.”
Responses from Other Leaders
Ajay Rai, Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief, said that ‘No Congress leader spoke wrongly.’ We respect everyone’s mother. Those who might have said something are not following Congress’s values. BJP also did not act when derogatory language was used against our leader, Surendra Rajput. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also condemned the incident, calling it “extremely inappropriate.” The issue has sparked a political debate over the alleged abuses at the Voter Adhikar Yatra event in Darbhanga, with BJP and NDA leaders blaming Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
