New Delhi: The opposition is facing technical hurdles on the legal front following the INDIA alliance’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and other opposition leaders demonstrated and subsequently filed a petition in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court registry has pointed out 14 technical flaws in the petition. Due to this, the case is not likely to be heard on Tuesday.

What were the 14 technical flaws found in the petition?

According to the information, Rs 220 less than the prescribed court fee was deposited with the petition. Apart from this, the power of attorney of nine petitioners was also not attached. The photocopy of the identity card of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was also not shown clearly. Lack of some important documents has also come to light.

Now the petitioners will have to remove all these shortcomings. Only after this will the further legal process on the petition be able to proceed.

Why will there be no hearing in the Supreme Court today?

According to sources associated with the legal team of Congress, work is being done to remove the technical shortcomings present in the petition. The petition will be reopened after correcting the documents and other formalities. Only after this can the way be cleared for fixing the date of hearing. At present, there is no possibility of hearing on Tuesday.

What is the opposition’s demand against SIR?

INDIA Coalition has raised questions on the process of special intensive vetting of voter lists. In the petition, opposition leaders have demanded a ban on SIR and an investigation into allegations of electoral irregularities. The opposition is also raising questions about the role of the Election Commission on this issue.

Will the tea meeting be held today at Rahul Gandhi’s residence?

INDIA alliance MPs will gather at Rahul Gandhi’s residence, 5 Sunehari Bagh Road, at 4 pm on Tuesday. Leaders and MPs involved in Monday’s protest have been invited to the meeting. According to sources, apart from Congress MPs, people associated with student organisations and civil society have also been called.

Joint press conference after the meeting?

Information about joint press conference of INDIA alliance after the tea meeting has come to light. In this, issues related to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and further strategy on the petition filed in the Supreme Court can be discussed. According to sources, there is little possibility of any major protest on Tuesday. However, the situation regarding the next strategy of the opposition may become clear after the press conference.
