
International news: Wang Yi visits India.Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi may visit India this week to meet India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval; this information was given according to media reports. This meeting can be held under the ‘Special Representative Mechanism’ on the India-China border dispute. This meeting is being considered as another effort towards resolving the long-standing border dispute between the two countries.
PM Modi’s China visit and SCO summit
Let us tell you that this possible visit is taking place at a time when Prime Minister Modi is going to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Tianjin, China, later this month. This will be his first visit to China since 2018.
Prime Minister Modi is likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and other global leaders during the SCO summit.
Signs of gradual improvement in relations
Stability is gradually returning to relations between India and China. This was indicated by the meeting of PM Modi and Xi Jinping during the 16th BRICS summit held in Kazan in October 2024. In that meeting, the two leaders welcomed the agreement for the complete resolution of the issues arising from the border dispute and the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 and the withdrawal of troops. Along with this, both sides also agreed to resume patrolling in the Depsang area of eastern Ladakh.
Direct flights may resume
Amid signs of improvement in mutual relations, direct flights between India and China may resume from next month. In June 2025, the two countries agreed to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, simplify the visa process, and share data related to international rivers.
Visa service started for Chinese tourists
Last month, the Chinese Embassy in India confirmed that India will now issue tourist visas to Chinese citizens. This decision is considered an important step towards reviving bilateral travel and mutual dialogue.
Participation in SCO meeting in Beijing
India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation ministerial meeting held in Beijing in June. During this, Jaishankar also met Chinese President Xi Jinping and briefed him on the recent progress in India-China relations. He also underlined that the role of the leadership of both countries is extremely important in taking bilateral relations forward.
