Notification for Rajya Sabha by-elections in Punjab has been issued. The nomination process began today and will continue till October 13. However, nominations will not be accepted on public holidays. Industrialist Rajinder Gupta has been finalised as the Aam Aadmi Party candidate in the state, while other parties are yet to clarify their stand regarding the elections.

According to the Election Commission, nominations for the elections will be filed till October 13, while scrutiny will be held on October 14. October 16 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations and voting will be held on October 24. The election process will end on October 28.

Voting will be held from 9 am to 4 pm. Vidhan Sabha Secretary Jaswinder Singh has been appointed as the Returning Officer to conduct and assist in the election process.

AAP in a strong position

Aam Aadmi Party in a strong position So far, AAP is in a strong position in this election. Currently, 93 of the 117 MLAs in Punjab are from Aam Aadmi Party. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has three, the Congress has 16, the BJP has two, the Bahujan Samaj Party has one and an independent MLA.

In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday announced Rajinder Gupta, one of the richest men in Punjab and a prominent industrialist, as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election to be held on October 24. The by-election is being held to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of AAP’s Sanjiv Arora, who resigned from the Rajya Sabha after being elected to the Vidhan Sabha.
