The dates for the Bihar Assembly elections have been announced. The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases. Voting will take place on November 6th and 11th, and the results will be declared on November 14th. The term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly ends on November 22nd. This is the first time that elections will be held in two phases in Bihar. This hasn’t happened since 2005. Voting took place in three phases in 2020, while in 2015, voting took place in five phases.

What did the ECI say during the PC:-

  • During the PC, the Election Commission said that if someone’s name is left out, he can get his name added till 10 days before the nomination.
  • No name can be added after the nomination is filed.
  • The voter list was purified starting June 24. The final voter list was released on September 30.

  • There are 3.92 crore male voters in Bihar.
  • There are 3.40 crore women voters in Bihar.

  • Yesterday, on Sunday, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that political parties have suggested holding elections immediately after Chhath Puja. He added that various political parties have demanded elections in one or two phases. Bihar Assembly elections were held in three phases in 2020. Recently, an Election Commission team arrived in Bihar on a two-day visit.
  • On Sunday, the ECI held a meeting with the heads of enforcement agencies and nodal officers to review preparations for the assembly elections. During the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that the Bihar elections will be completed before November 22, 2025. According to sources, voting will be conducted in fewer phases this time. It is likely that the assembly elections will be held in two phases.
  • In fact, the ruling NDA demanded a single phase of elections, while the opposition recommended two phases. This will be the first assembly election in Bihar after the SIR. The SIR in Bihar began on June 24th. Following the SIR, 6.85 million names were removed from Bihar’s voter list and 2.153 million new names were added, bringing the total number of voters in the state to approximately 74.2 million.
