Haveli Kharagpur (Munger): A family dispute, sparked by a mere five percent interest claim, escalated into a violent confrontation in Lohchi village, located within the jurisdiction of the Shyampur police station. This tragic incident claimed the life of 65-year-old Urmila Devi. The incident occurred late Sunday night and has left the entire village in shock.

According to family members, Urmila Devi had two sons. She lived with her younger son, Ranjit Yadav. A few months ago, she had entrusted her elder son, Rajiv Yadav, with approximately ₹300,00, asking him to hold onto the money for safekeeping. The woman subsequently returned the money to her son.

However, her elder daughter-in-law, Lali Devi, had been continuously pressuring the family, demanding a five percent interest payment on this sum. This issue had created a tense atmosphere within the household for several days. Late Sunday night, this dispute suddenly turned violent.

An altercation between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law quickly escalated into a physical assault. Lali Devi, along with her son, began physically attacking the elderly woman. The elderly woman succumbed to her injuries during the beating. Acting on information provided by villagers, the Shyampur police arrived at the scene and sent the body to the Munger Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police Take Swift Action

Given the gravity of the matter, the police took swift action and arrested the accused daughter-in-law, Lali Devi. The police are also investigating the involvement of other individuals accused in the case.

Anil Kumar, the SDPO (Sub-Divisional Police Officer) of Haveli Kharagpur, stated that, prima facie, the case appears to be a domestic dispute. A disagreement regarding a monetary transaction between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law escalated into a physical altercation.

During this incident, the elderly woman passed away. One accused individual has been arrested, while investigations into other aspects of the case are ongoing.
