Chandigarh. Booking tickets for travel on Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses is soon going to become much easier. Passengers will no longer have to rely on a single platform for this purpose; the undertaking is currently preparing to partner with renowned online travel agencies such as MakeMyTrip and Goibibo. The necessary procedures to facilitate this have already been initiated.
CTU’s primary objective is to increase passenger ridership on its buses, particularly given that Chandigarh is a prominent tourist destination. The city attracts visitors not only from across India but also from abroad. Furthermore, CTU’s operational network extends across eight states—meaning CTU buses operate routes covering eight different states.
CTU buses serve destinations across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh, in addition to Chandigarh itself. Once partnerships with online travel agencies are established, tickets for CTU buses will be available for booking via various other online platforms as well. This strategic move is also intended to enable CTU to effectively compete with private bus operators.
Currently, CTU has an existing agreement with RedBus. However, the undertaking now seeks to collaborate with additional online travel agencies to broaden accessibility and allow a larger number of people to book tickets. This strategy has been formulated with precisely this objective in mind.
Benefits for Passengers
Tickets will be available across a multitude of apps and websites. Passengers will no longer need to stand in queues at bus stands. Bookings can be made quickly and easily via mobile phones from the comfort of one’s home. Even in instances of sudden or impromptu travel plans, the likelihood of securing a ticket will significantly increase. The availability of multiple booking platforms will also make it easier to find and secure a seat promptly.
Information regarding seat availability will be displayed across various platforms, allowing passengers to check fares and bus schedules on different apps. This will enable them to identify and select the most suitable and affordable travel option available. CTU’s focus is now increasingly shifting towards the deployment of electric buses.
