Islamabad: A top commander of Pakistan-based terror organisation, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has reportedly died under mysterious conditions in Pakistan’s Bahawalpur on Wednesday. An unidentified vehicle reportedly hit Maulana Salman Azhar, who was considered a close aid of JeM founder Masood Azhar, which led to his death.

When did the incident happen?

Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed’s top commander Maulana Salman Azhar was reportedly hit by an unknown vehicle on Wednesday.

Last week, a commander of the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) , Sheikh Yousaf Afridi, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Who was Maulana Salman Azhar?

Police and local agencies are currently investigating the matter, but no official statement has yet been issued. Maulana Salman Azhar was considered a key figure within Jaish-e-Mohammed. He had been active for a long time and was considered instrumental in strategizing activities against India. Consequently, his sudden death is being considered a major blow to the organization.

Is this the first case?

A similar incident occurred earlier in June 2025, when another senior Jaish-e-Mohammed commander, Maulana Abdul Aziz Esar, died under mysterious circumstances in Pakistan’s Punjab region.

Some reports stated that he died of a heart attack, but the exact cause of death remained unclear. Abdul Aziz Esar was accused of plotting numerous terrorist activities in India. He was linked to several cases, including the 2016 Nagrota attack.
