Washington: For months, the world has been witnessing a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives, sent oil prices plummeting, and put pressure on the global economy. But now, the situation appears to be changing.

Did US-Iran sign the deal?

US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian both digitally signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday laying out terms for ending the war, according to officials.

Trump has confirmed that a peace agreement has been signed with Iran. This agreement has been the subject of speculation for several days. The agreement is now expected to lead to concrete steps toward ending the 110-day conflict.

What did Trump say?

While departing Versailles, France, Trump told reporters that the agreement had been signed. He stated categorically that he had signed the document in Versailles. The agreement was finalised during dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron after the G-7 summit.

Trump said, “It’s signed. Signed in Versailles. Just signed it.”

A White House official also confirmed the signing, saying that Trump personally signed a copy of the agreement.

What did Macron say?

French President Emmanuel Macron shared a video stating that US President Donald Trump has signed the peace agreement between Iran and the United States in Versailles. According to Macron, this agreement could prove to be a major step towards lasting peace in West Asia.

Additionally, this will pave the way for the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which is expected to normalize global oil supplies. He added that this agreement will also benefit ordinary people, as energy and fuel prices may see some relief in the future.

What did Iran say?

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, also confirmed the agreement. He said that the text of the agreement between the US and Iran has been approved at the presidential level and the real challenge now is its implementation.

According to Baghaei, the agreement was also signed electronically. Interestingly, the signing ceremony scheduled for Friday in Switzerland was canceled, but the agreement is still considered effective.
Digital signatures already done?
According to the White House, this process wasn’t limited to the signing in Versailles. According to reports, US Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, had already digitally signed the document. This process was reportedly completed in Trump’s presence.

What was decided in this deal?

According to a reports, the agreement covers not just a ceasefire, but also broader issues such as oil, nuclear programs, economic sanctions, and maritime trade.
