New Delhi: Most parts of the country have been in the grip of severe heat and heatwaves for the last several days. It was becoming difficult to go out during the day. But now the weather has suddenly taken a turn. Indian Meteorological Department IMD has issued an alert for the next 15 hours for 11 states including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain, hailstorms, thunderstorms and storms may occur in these areas. IMD says that in some places there will be strong winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
How did the weather change suddenly?
The progress of monsoon was slow for the last 2 weeks. Clouds did not come, it did not rain. For this reason, heat broke records in North India and Central India. The temperature had crossed 45 degrees. Now the reason for the change in weather is the moist winds coming from the Bay of Bengal and a strong western disturbance. Due to the meeting of these two, a strong weather system has been formed which has overturned the summer season.
In which states is there alert of rain and storm?
IMD has placed a total of 11 states on red and orange alert. The list includes Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. There is a possibility of heavy rain along with thunder, lightning and strong winds at all these places. Hail may also fall in hilly areas.
Can wind and hail cause damage?
According to the Meteorological Department, the wind will blow at a speed of 40-50 KM per hour. In such strong winds, trees can fall and electric wires can break. Where hail falls, farmers’ crops may be damaged. Hail is most dangerous for wheat, vegetable and fruit crops. Even in cities, there will be fear of vehicles and glass breaking.
What is the danger of lightning?
Along with rain, incidents of thunder and lightning will also increase. IMD has clearly said that people should not stand in open fields, roofs or under trees during the storm. Do not go near mobile towers and tall buildings. Many deaths occur every year due to lightning, so it is important to be alert.
