Nassau: Tragedy struck the Bahamas on Friday when a small aircraft crashed in North Andros, a coastal area west of the capital, Nassau, killing all 10 people on board. The crash occurred as the nation was marking its 53rd Independence Day celebrations. In the aftermath of the accident, the government suspended all domestic flights operated by Flamingo Air until further notice.
Did anyone survive?
Initially, there was news of relief. Shortly after the accident, Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis said that one person had been rescued alive. But a few hours later in the press conference, he said that that person also died in the hospital. His injuries were very serious. In this way, the total number of deaths in this accident reached 10. The government has not yet released the names of the deceased. The administration is saying that first all the families will be informed, after that the names will be made public. Rescue teams are still busy collecting items from the debris.

But in an instant the day of joy turned into sadness. The entire country is in pain at this time.” He further said that the government stands with all the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy. “Our grief cannot be expressed in words. The government will provide all possible help to the families of the victims. We are with them at every step.” The PM also prayed for the peace of the souls of the deceased and appealed to the countrymen to remain united.
What steps did the government take?
After the accident, the aviation authority immediately started an investigation. As a preliminary investigation, all flights of ‘Flamingo Air’ have been stopped. This decision will remain in effect until the technical investigation of the aircraft is completed. The area of North Andros was sealed after the accident. Forensic and aviation teams are collecting evidence on the spot. Weather conditions and whether there was a technical fault in the aircraft or not will all be investigated. There is a wave of mourning throughout the Bahamas after this accident. Independence celebration programmes have also been cancelled.
