Uttar Pradesh e-challan relief: If you are driving a vehicle in Uttar Pradesh and have been issued a hefty challan, then there is no need to worry. The Transport Department has given a big relief to such vehicle owners. Now these people will not have to pay even a single rupee of the challan. The Transport Department has completely waived the challan issued on their vehicles. A total of 12.93 lakh people in UP will benefit from this decision. The Transport Department has started this entire process of waiving the challan. It will take a total of 30 days, after which you will be tension free regarding the challan.

Actually, till now vehicle owners were facing problem in selling their vehicles due to heavy fines. There were many vehicles on which fines of one to two lakhs were pending. In such a situation, no one used to buy these vehicles. With this decision of the Transport Department, vehicle owners will get relief from problems like fitness, permit, vehicle transfer and High Security Registration Plate (HSRP). After the process of the Transport Department is completed, vehicle owners will also be able to check their challan status on the transport portal.

Who will be forgiven?

This decision of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has been taken to waive the challans of those vehicles, which were pending in the court till 31 December 2021 or whose time limit had expired and were not sent to the court.

Whose challan will not be waived?

Cases related to tax challans, serious crimes, accidents or IPC will be excluded from this exemption. The Transport Department says that this step has been taken to ensure compliance with the law, to relieve the public from unnecessary troubles and to make the services transparent and timely.

Challans of which years will be waived?

The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has decided to abolish the challans issued between 2017 and 2021, i.e. in four years, in two categories.

  • Challans pending in court – These will be recorded as Disposed Abated on the portal.
  • Pending and expired challans at office level – These will be shown under Closed Time-Bar (Non-Tax) category.

In how many days will the process be completed?

The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has set a target to complete this process in 30 days. For this, the progress report will be uploaded on the dashboard every week.

How many people have been forgiven so far?

According to the data of the Transport Department, a total of 30.52 lakh e-challans were issued between 2017 and 2021. Out of these, 17.59 lakh have already been disposed of, while 12.93 lakh challans were pending. Of these, 10.84 lakh challans were pending in the court and 1.29 lakh at the office level.

What did the Transport Commissioner say?

UP Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh said, “This is the right decision. All officers and employees will work to eliminate these challans in 30 days. This decision will not only free lakhs of vehicle owners from unnecessary troubles, but will also strengthen the digital system of the Transport Department. The settlement of more than 30 lakh challans will end the pendency and vehicle owners will find it easier to do things like fitness, permit and HSRP.”
