On late Tuesday night in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district, a speeding SUV rammed into a Ganesh idol immersion procession, resulting in the death of at least three people and leaving 22 others injured.

The idol immersion began late at night around 11:30 pm in Jurudand village, where devotees were walking with drums and music when a speeding Bolero car coming from the Raikera side veered into a crowd of about 150 devotees, hitting participants.

All three deceased were identified as Vipin Prajapati (17), Arvind Karketta (19), and Khirowati Yadav (32), who died on the spot. Out of the 22 injured devotees, 18 were severely hurt and taken to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital for further treatment, while the rest were shifted to Bagicha Primary Health Centre.

According to a statement by Jashpur Superintendent of Police Shashimohan Singh, “Three people died, and 22 were injured after a speeding, uncontrolled car entered a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Jashpur last night. The car driver has been nabbed.”
