New Delhi: Weather conditions have changed dramatically across North India, with heavy rainfall battering parts of Delhi-NCR and Himachal Pradesh. In Jammu and Kashmir, relentless downpours have triggered flood-like conditions in Rajouri district.

What did IMD say?

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain in Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, several parts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience heavy rain or thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.

This change in weather in Jammu and Kashmir has had a direct impact on religious pilgrimages, due to which a decision has been taken to temporarily suspend the Amarnath and Vaishno Devi Yatra from Sunday.

Did the weather change in Delhi?

The national capital recorded a slight drop in maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday. The IMD has issued a “yellow alert” for Delhi-NCR on Sunday. The weather remained pleasant on Sunday morning, but strong winds are expected in the afternoon. These winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, with occasional gusts up to 40 kilometers per hour.

The IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature in Delhi on Sunday could be between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature could be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. However, Delhiites are unlikely to experience complete relief from the humidity and intense heat at this time.

What about the weather in Uttar Pradesh?

The IMD has issued a specific warning for Uttar Pradesh, stating that heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in some areas. Heavy and very heavy rainfall is also expected in isolated areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department has also advised people to remain vigilant regarding lightning and thunderstorms throughout the state.

What about Jammu and Kashmir?

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, continuous heavy rainfall has caused rivers and streams to overflow, flooding low-lying areas. In view of the increasing danger, the district administration has issued an alert. The administration has appealed to the public to avoid traveling without any urgent need and to stay away from rivers, streams, and flood- prone areas. Due to the inclement weather, the administration has decided to suspend the Amarnath and Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimages starting Sunday.
