New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested a wanted robbery suspect following an encounter in the Maidan Garhi area of South Delhi. According to police, the accused, identified as Sawan alias Muchhad Mama alias Heera Lal, allegedly opened fire at the police team when he spotted the officers. The police retaliated with five rounds of firing, during which the suspect sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg.
The accused was subsequently overpowered and arrested. Police personnel escaped unharmed during the incident.
Suspect Allegedly Fired Two Rounds at Police
According to the police, the suspect fired two rounds at the team during the operation. Assessing the threat, the officers retaliated by firing five rounds. The accused sustained an injury to his right leg and was apprehended by the police team.
The incident prompted attention in the locality, while investigators are working to establish all the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
Wanted in Robbery Case With a Reward of ₹1 Lakh
The arrested man has been identified as Sawan, also known as Muchhad Mama and Heera Lal. Police said he was wanted in a robbery case and carried a reward of ₹1 lakh on his arrest.
According to preliminary information provided by the police, more than a dozen criminal cases have been registered against him. Investigators are examining his criminal record, previous cases and possible involvement in other offences.
Operation Led by Maidan Garhi SHO Prahlad Yadav
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Maidan Garhi Station House Officer Prahlad Yadav. The team included Bhati Mines Police Post In-charge Vinod Bhati, Sub-Inspector Narendra, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Mehta, Head Constables Subey Singh, Shakti Singh and Pradeep, and Constable Wasim.
Police said the team apprehended the suspect while ensuring the safety of its personnel. Further investigation was initiated following the arrest.

Police are now examining the accused’s alleged role in the robbery case and his possible links to other criminal activities. Investigators will also look into whether he was involved in additional offences and whether any associates may have assisted him.
