Ratia: Ratia Sadar Police have rearrested a drug trafficking accused who escaped from police custody in Nagpur on November 2. The accused, identified as Sandeep alias Sunny, son of Harjinder Singh and a resident of Khet Dhani Khunan, was taken into custody following a joint operation by Nagpur Police Post and the Ratia Crime Investigation Agency (CIA).

He was subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.

Accused Had Escaped During Police Questioning

According to Ratia Sadar Police Station SHO, Woman Inspector Pushpa, a case had already been registered against Sandeep under Sections 21(B), 27(A), 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. The case, numbered 200, was registered on September 4, 2026.

The accused was brought to Nagpur Police Post on November 2 for questioning. Police said he pushed personnel and escaped from custody, prompting an immediate search operation.

Joint Teams Track Down the Accused

Following the incident, teams from Nagpur Police Post and CIA Ratia began searching for him. Acting on confidential information that the accused was hiding at a farm residence in Birabadi village, separate teams conducted raids under the leadership of Nagpur Police Post in-charge ASI Basant Singh and CIA Ratia in-charge Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar.

When the police reached the location, Sandeep allegedly attempted to flee towards the rooftop to avoid arrest. During the operation, he reportedly assaulted Head Constable Subhash Chandra when the latter tried to apprehend him, pushing him down the staircase and causing injuries.

The accused then jumped from the roof in an attempt to escape and was injured after falling. Police personnel managed to take him into custody at the spot. Both the injured policeman and the accused were taken to hospital for treatment.

Separate Case Registered Over Escape and Assault

Inspector Pushpa said a separate case, numbered 233 and registered on November 3, 2026, has been filed at Ratia Sadar Police Station under Sections 121(1), 132, 221 and 253(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
