New Delhi: A case of alleged misbehaviour and stalking of two girl students of Delhi University has come to light in Mukherjee Nagar area of Delhi. The girl students allege that the youth travelling in the white SUV made obscene comments at them. When she protested, she was abused and later chased by car. According to the girl students, the accused also tried to forcibly make them sit in the car. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and started investigation. Two accused have been arrested in the case and the Tata Safari used in the incident has also been seized.
How did the discussion regarding T-shirt start?
According to the student’s statement, the incident took place on September 23 at around 9:30 pm near Haqiqat Park. She was walking with her friend. Meanwhile, the youth in the white SUV commented towards her. According to the student, ‘Urban Mindset’ was written on her red T-shirt and a young man sitting in the car commented about this. When both the girl students protested against this, it is alleged that the youth started using abusive language.
What happened after the protest?
The girl students say that they asked the youth not to misbehave and told them to lodge a complaint with the police. After this the situation worsened further. It is alleged that the youth in the car kept following them for some distance. When the girl students tried to record the incident on their mobile, the car stopped near them. According to the student, during this time an attempt was also made to drag her inside the car.
When did the accused run away?
According to the girl students, as soon as an attempt was made to start recording the incident, the youth in the car left the spot. After this the girl students contacted the police. In initial reports, the girl students had alleged that they had to visit different police stations to lodge the complaint. The police have said that this aspect will also be investigated.
What action has the police taken so far?
According to DCP of North-West Delhi, Akanksha Yadav, a case was registered on the basis of the complaint of the girl students and investigation was started. Police recovered the Tata Safari used in the incident. Subsequently two accused, Abhimanyu and Abhinav, were arrested. According to the police, both the arrested youths were present in the car at the time of the incident. Another youth has been identified as Naman, who is said to be a student of Delhi University.
Under which sections was the case registered?
According to the police, an FIR has been registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station under Section 78, Section 79 and Section 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code. Police are also examining the footage of nearby CCTV cameras. The statements of the girl students and available video footage are also being examined in the investigation.

At present, the police are interrogating the arrested accused and investigating the role of other people involved in the incident. The allegations made by the girl students will be confirmed on the basis of investigation and available evidence. Police say that investigation into the incident site and other aspects related to the accused is also going on.
