Delhi Police have arrested four people, including the main accused, in connection with the brutal murder of a canteen operator associated with Chhattisgarh Bhawan in Dwarka. During the investigation, it emerged that the crime was allegedly planned out of greed and robbery. The accused reportedly lured the victim by pretending to be friends before killing him.

How was the murder planned?

According to the police, the prime accused, Happy alias Suraj, along with his live-in partner Rakhi, invited the victim to a rented house in Matiala Extension on February 18 on the pretext of a party. Once there, the victim was allegedly held captive and assaulted. The accused demanded gold jewellery and cash from him. When he refused, they stabbed him to death.

After the murder, the accused allegedly dismembered the body and disposed of the remains in the Yamuna River in an attempt to destroy evidence.

How did the police crack the case?

Police relied on CCTV footage, call detail records, and other technical evidence to trace the accused. The victim’s car was tracked to Matiala Extension, which led investigators to the suspects. Subsequently, Happy along with three others — Bhupendra, Balram, and Neeraj — were arrested. Interrogation of the accused is ongoing.

What was the motive?

During questioning, police found that the main accused had noticed the victim’s gold jewellery and cash earlier and allegedly plotted the crime out of greed. The two had reportedly become friends recently, and the accused took advantage of that relationship.

How was the body disposed of?

After the murder, the body was allegedly cut into pieces and packed into three bags before being thrown into the Yamuna River near Vrindavan. Police have recovered the remains and sent them for post-mortem examination. Investigators also revealed that the accused tried to mislead authorities by using the victim’s phone and sending misleading messages.

What happens next?

Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether more people were involved in the conspiracy. Officials said the crime was carefully planned, but technical evidence and sustained investigation helped solve the case.
