Mathura: Police have solved the murder and robbery case involving an 80-year-old woman who was killed at her home in Chuna Kankar Wali Gali on the night of October 24. A joint team of Kotwali police and the SWAT unit has arrested a 19-year-old man, identified as Bharat, who lived in the victim’s neighbourhood.

Police recovered a large quantity of jewellery, cash, a mobile phone and the clothes allegedly worn by the accused during the crime. Investigators said the woman regarded Bharat as a member of her family and allowed him to visit her home. He allegedly exploited this trust to carry out the crime.

How Did the Accused Plan the Crime?

According to the police investigation, Bharat frequently visited the elderly woman. During Navratri, he had visited her house with his sister for the traditional Kanya-Langur meal. It was reportedly during this visit that he noticed a safe containing jewellery, which prompted him to plan a theft.

Police said the accused had also searched Google for information about anaesthetic injections and firearms. He worked at a house belonging to Rupa Kachori, located close to the victim’s residence, and knew that she generally stayed alone.

Attack Near the Staircase

On October 24, at around 10 pm, Bharat allegedly reached the woman’s house and rang the doorbell. When she opened the door, he told her that his clothes had fallen onto her terrace. Trusting him, the woman took the terrace key and began leading him upstairs.

During this time, the accused allegedly picked up a brick lying near the staircase and struck her repeatedly on the head and face. The woman died from her injuries.

After the murder, he allegedly took the jewellery worn by the victim and ornaments kept inside a bag near the refrigerator. He then shut the house, returned home, changed his clothes and went to sleep. Police said he concealed the stolen valuables and was planning to travel to Delhi with the jewellery to fulfil his personal desires.

Jewellery, Cash and Other Items Recovered

Acting on a tip-off, the Kotwali police and SWAT team arrested Bharat, son of Sonu, near his residence at House No. 443 in Chuna Kankar Wali Gali.

Following his arrest, police recovered 60 bangles, 11 chains, 31 rings, two pendants, 27 pairs of earrings, one nose pin, a rudraksha bead fitted with yellow metal and three rings made of mixed metal. Other recovered items included a Moto G57 Power mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, clothes allegedly worn during the crime and ₹16,600 in cash.

Following the recovery, Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was added to the case.

Police Team Receives Reward

Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said a murder case was registered on October 25 following the killing of the 80-year-old woman in the Kotwali area. The Kotwali police and SWAT team were assigned to investigate the case.

He confirmed that the accused, who lived near the victim, had been arrested and the stolen jewellery recovered. According to the SSP, the accused allegedly committed the crime to fulfil his personal desires. The police team that solved the case has been awarded ₹25,000.
