New Delhi: Ekadashi is considered to be one of the sacred and auspicious days, where the worship of Sanatan Dharma can be undertaken. This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and religious rituals and devotional activities are performed. The fast of Kamika Ekadashi is observed on Sunday. The Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of Sawan month. This is a day on which Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of Sridhar and fasting on this day removes all the sin and ancestral curses.

What is the story behind the fasting of Kamika Ekadashi?

There lived a man in a village who unknowingly committed a great sin according to legend. So he went to a sage for a remedy for his sins. The sage told him to fast for the Kamika Ekadashi. The man fasted completely and devotionately and worshipped Lord Vishnu. The quick effect of the fast removed all his sins and he came to salvation. This was the importance of this Ekadashi but it has increased more and more since then.

What is the procedure of Kamika Ekadashi Pujita?

  • Get up early in the morning (Brahma Muhurta) and take a morning bath.
  • Wear clean clothes and make a promise to observe fast.
  • Install the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.
  • Give them the flower of yellow coriander, fruits, incense, lamps and basil leaves.
  • Recite Vishnu Sahasranama or Geeta.
  • Offer food to God, do aarti in evening.

What is the mantra of Kamika Ekadashi?

This Mantra is Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya Namah which is chanted 108 times. This is thought to bring tranquility to the mind and bring blessings to Lord Vishnu.
