Batala: Alleging mental harassment by his wife, an Army soldier went live on Facebook and consumed a poisonous substance. The soldier passed away following the incident. As news of his death spread, a wave of grief swept through the village and the surrounding areas. The family is inconsolable and is demanding justice from the police administration. The deceased soldier has been identified as Kanwaljit Singh, a resident of Chhit village. Kanwaljit Singh had joined the Army approximately three years ago and was currently posted with the 17 Sikh Regiment. It is reported that he had been sent to Jabalpur on a temporary assignment.
According to the family, while traveling on Friday, Kanwaljit Singh went live on Facebook and leveled allegations against his wife and several others, accusing them of subjecting him to mental harassment. During the live video broadcast, he consumed a poisonous substance. Subsequently, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away shortly thereafter.
Married in February
The deceased’s mother, Surjit Kaur, alleged that her only son had married Sarabjit Kaur in February 2026. She stated that barely two months after the wedding, her daughter-in-law left the house late one night. In this regard, Kanwaljit Singh had even filed a complaint at the Sadar Police Station, but no concrete action was taken. The mother mentioned that she received a phone call from his unit on Friday morning, informing her of her son’s suicide. She further alleged that during the Facebook Live session, Kanwaljit Singh had explicitly named several individuals, including his wife. The family is now demanding strict action against the accused from the police administration.
Case Registered Against Unidentified Persons
The deceased’s sister, Sandeep Kaur, also alleged that her brother had been under severe mental stress for a prolonged period. She revealed that Kanwaljit Singh had repeatedly spoken to his father-in-law regarding his wife’s alleged illicit relationships, but his concerns were not taken seriously. Meanwhile, ASI Ramesh Kumar of the Sheikhupur Police Post (under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station) stated that a case has been registered against unidentified persons based on the complaint filed earlier. He stated that since the suicide incident occurred in Jabalpur, the local police there will handle the subsequent legal proceedings. Following the incident, the atmosphere in the village is extremely somber. A large number of people gathered during the funeral rites to offer solace to the bereaved family.
