On Saturday near the Haridwar Roadways bus stand, the accused who had shot at a Haryana Police Sub-Inspector and fled, shot himself during a police cordon in Dehradun on Sunday, resulting in his death. A police team from Haridwar also reached the spot in Dehradun. It is being reported that the accused was staying near Laxman Chowk in Dehradun at the residence of a lawyer known to him. When the police arrived, he opened fire.
Injured Sub-Inspector Referred to AIIMS Rishikesh
It may be recalled that on Saturday, while a police team from Jind district in Haryana had come to Haridwar to apprehend the criminal, the accused shot a Sub-Inspector. The bullet struck the Sub-Inspector in the abdomen and elbow after which the criminal fled the scene. The injured Sub-Inspector was immediately taken to the hospital from where he was referred to AIIMS Rishikesh.
Accused Opened Fire During a Scuffle
According to the police, Sub-Inspector Surendra from Jind district, Haryana had arrived in Haridwar with his team in search of a criminal absconding in a case of threatening the SP there. Police had located the criminal around the Roadways bus stand and railway station. When Sub-Inspector Surendra was searching near the bus stand, he spotted the criminal. As soon as the Sub-Inspector moved towards him, the accused started running. Surendra caught him after a short distance. During this, there was a scuffle between the two and they fell to the ground. Then the criminal pulled out a pistol and shot at the Sub-Inspector. With Surendra bleeding from the gunshot wound, the criminal took advantage of the situation and escaped from the spot.
