New Delhi: A statue of US President Donald Trump has surfaced, garnering widespread attention from social media to political circles. A controversial statue of Trump has been installed near the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. It is coated in 23-carat gold and has been named “The Orange Plague.”
Danish sculptor Jens Galschiot created this nearly eight-foot-tall statue. It depicts Trump completely nude, holding a golf club in one hand and the scales of justice in the other. A much smaller, weary man is shown carrying Trump on his shoulders, with a globe-like figure beneath.
The inscription below the statue reads ‘The King of Injustice’
The statue’s base is inscribed with “The King of Injustice,” along with a message depicting Trump as a burden on the man who carries him. Sculptor Jens Galschiot has described the work as a “satirical protest.” He says the sculpture presents a critique of Trump’s US foreign policy, environmental and climate policies.
Debate also broke out on social media
Video of the sculpture quickly spread online, sparking varied reactions. Some users found the sculpture ridiculous and criticized the artist, while others even offered political responses.
Galciot argues that Trump poses a grave threat to the international rules-based order, democratic values, and efforts to combat the climate crisis. He describes the piece as a satirical protest to draw attention to this issue.
Danish MEP supports the statue
Danish MEP Per Clausen welcomed the installation, saying those who cannot tolerate the statue should not have the right to be on the global stage.
The statue will remain in Strasbourg until Thursday
According to the report, the sculpture is expected to remain in Strasbourg until Thursday. It will then be displayed at the United Nations COP31 climate conference in November. Jens Galschiot also plans to give 3D-printed miniature replicas of the sculpture to delegates attending the conference.
