Patna: A social media reel in Munger, Bihar took the Rose Day celebrations straight to the police station. In the video, a woman is seen giving a glass of wine to her husband after giving him a rose. This scene quickly went viral as complete prohibition was implemented in the state. The matter became more serious when another video of the same woman surfaced, in which she was seen acting on the song with a pistol in her hand. As soon as the video went viral, the police started action.
When and how did the video go viral?
The reel was posted on the social media platform Instagram in early February. Within a few hours a large number of people saw it. Information about the video reached the local police, after which an investigation was started.
Why did the liquor scene come under the ambit of the law?
Buying, selling, consuming and public display of liquor are all banned in Bihar. Liquor bottles and glasses were clearly visible in the video. On this basis, it was seen as a violation of the law and a case was registered.
Why did displaying weapons become a separate crime?
In the second clip, the woman was seen waving a pistol. According to the police, showing and displaying weapons in public is a serious matter. It is also being investigated whether the weapon is licensed or not.
What steps did the police take on the spot?
The investigation team raided the woman’s house. After interrogation, an FIR was registered against the woman and the alleged weapon owner. Officials have said that all aspects are being investigated.
Have such cases come to light before?
After the implementation of the liquor ban, many cases related to social media have been registered in Bihar. However, due to the simultaneous display of both liquor and weapons in this incident, the matter is being considered more sensitive.
What kind of debate broke out on social media?
People’s reactions to the video varied. Some justified the police action, while others called it part of a private celebration. But most people expressed concern about violation of the law.
What will be the further action?
Police say that evidence is being collected. If the allegations are proved then legal action will proceed under relevant sections. This entire episode has once again raised the question of how costly ignoring local laws can be while sharing content on social media. The desire to go viral sometimes turns into legal trouble.
