New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the schedule of the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup. India will begin their campaign against defending champions Australia on 7 October 2027 in Cape Town. Just three days later, on October 10, a high-voltage match will be played between India and Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. According to ICC, the 2027 World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Which teams are in India’s group?
India has been placed in Group A along with Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, host Zimbabwe and Qualifier A. Group B consists of New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. A total of 14 teams will participate in the tournament and 57 matches will be played.
When and which teams will Team India face?
India’s group stage campaign will start against Australia on October 7. After this, there will be matches with Pakistan on 10 October, Afghanistan on 14 October, Qualifier A on 17 October and Zimbabwe on 24 October.
India’s group stage matches:
- October 7: India vs Australia, Cape Town
- October 10: India vs Pakistan, Johannesburg
- October 14: India vs Afghanistan, Tshwane
- October 17: India vs Qualifier A, Bloemfontein
- October 24: Zimbabwe vs India, Victoria Falls
The match against Zimbabwe on October 24 will be played at the new Victoria Falls Stadium. This will be the first World Cup match to be held on this ground.
How will the teams reach the Super 7 stage?
After the group stage, the tournament will move to the Super 7 stage. The top three teams of both the groups and the better fourth placed team will advance to the next round. In this phase, group stage points will not carry forward and each team will play 6 matches. The Super 7 phase will run from 25 October to 14 November.
ICC has given A1 seed to India, A2 seed to Australia and A3 seed to Pakistan. New Zealand has got B1 seeding, South Africa has got B2 seeding and Sri Lanka has got B3 seeding. This seeding has been decided on the basis of ICC ODI rankings of 30 September 2026.
When will India compete in Super 7?
If India qualifies for Super 7, then the schedule is as follows:
- 28 October: India vs Australia, Victoria Falls
- 31 October: South Africa vs India, Johannesburg
- 4 November: India vs New Zealand, Paarl
- 7 November: India vs Pakistan, Cape Town
- 11 November: India vs England, Gkebarha
- 14 November: India vs Sri Lanka, Durban
This means that after the group stage, India and Pakistan can also face each other in Super 7, but this will happen only if both the teams qualify for Super 7.
When will the semi-finals and final be played?
After Super 7, the top four teams will go to the semi-finals. The first semi-final will be played in Cape Town on 17 November and the second in Tshwane on 18 November. The World Cup final will be held on 21 November 2027 at the historic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
