New Delhi: It is often said that love knows no age or social boundaries; it can happen between anyone. A similar incident has come to light from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Here, a son-in-law became so captivated by his mother-in-law’s beauty that he resolved to spend his life with her. The mother-in-law, too, had fallen for him. Deciding to marry, they eloped and tied the knot in court. News of this spread through the village, sparking widespread discussion, and the story is now going viral on social media. Following the wedding, the couple has appealed to the public to accept their new relationship and offer their blessings.
Where did the incident occur?
According to media reports, the incident occurred in the Akbarpur police station area of Kanpur Dehat. It is reported that the son-in-law began visiting his in-laws’ home after his wife’s marriage. The mother-in-law was quite beautiful, and the son-in-law became infatuated with her; she, in turn, began to like him. Neither the in-laws nor the young man’s wife was aware of the relationship. Gradually, the two grew closer and a romantic bond developed.
Disregarding family and societal norms, they vowed to live and die together. One day, they eloped, making their romance the talk of the town. They married in court and subsequently released a video that went viral on social media. In the video, they stated that the marriage was consensual and expressed their desire to spend their lives together. They also appealed to the public to accept their relationship.
Did similar incident take place in Aligarh a year ago?
A similar case of a mother-in-law eloping with her son-in-law had surfaced a year ago as well. A young woman from a village in Madrak was betrothed to Rahul Kumar, a resident of Nagla Machhariya in Dadon. The wedding was scheduled for April 16, 2025. However, on April 6, 38-year-old Sapna had eloped with her son-in-law, Rahul, who was about to turn 20. A few days later, the two returned on their own.
The woman stated that her husband used to beat her while intoxicated and harass her for money; he also used to be suspicious whenever she spoke to her son-in-law. Distressed by this, she had left home. Despite attempts by villagers to reason with her and extensive counseling, she refused to stay and left with her son-in-law. Now, she has once again become a topic of discussion after eloping with her brother-in-law.
