New Delhi: Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Uttar Pradesh next year. Ahead of this election, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has launched an attack on the Samajwadi Party. He questioned why Akhilesh Yadav is reluctant to form an alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). He also advised the SP chief to introspect.
In an interview with a leading News Channel, Owaisi said, “I don’t know why the Samajwadi Party is afraid to form an alliance with us.” Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party’s defeats in the last few elections, Owaisi said, “Akhilesh has lost five elections. He should do some introspection.”
‘SP does not want Muslims to become leaders’
He said, “The Samajwadi Party doesn’t want Muslims to become leaders. They should just remain voters and remain silent.” He accused the Samajwadi Party of seeking electoral support from the community but not giving them a major role in political leadership. Owaisi also questioned Akhilesh Yadav’s meeting with jailed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan . He claimed, “Akhilesh went to meet Azam Khan in jail after I said he had never visited him.”
Owaisi also mentioned the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots that occurred during the Samajwadi Party’s rule. He said, “During the Akhilesh government, the Muzaffarnagar riots took place, in which hundreds of women were raped.” Owaisi has repeatedly reiterated that Muslims need independent political leadership and not be used merely as a vote bank by established parties.
We will not make any Yadav our leader: Owaisi
Earlier, on October 18, while addressing an event in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi had said that his party was working towards providing a political platform to Muslim youth. He said that Muslim youth possess the same potential as people from other communities, but are often not given the opportunity to lead. Owaisi had said, “Now we will not make any Nehru, Gandhi or Yadav our leader. The young men and women standing in our ranks will become our leaders.”
Now Abdul will become a leader: Owaisi
He said the AIMIM wants young people to become MLAs and MPs so they can provide justice to marginalized communities. Taking aim at established political families, Owaisi alleged that Muslim workers are expected to work at the grassroots level, while leaders from other communities occupy high positions. He said, “Now ‘Abdul’ will become a leader, an MLA, and an MP.”
