Jhansi: A very painful case has come to light from Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh. A 13-year-old newly married girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Kachnev village of Katera police station area. The girl was married only 26 days ago. The family says that the girl was insisting on marrying her lover, after which both of them were married. After the incident, sensation has spread in the entire village.
Was the minor bride worried even after love marriage?
According to family members, the girl was in a love affair with an 18-year-old youth from the same village. When the family came to know about this relationship, they first tried to convince her, but she remained adamant in her insistence. Eventually the family got both of them married. The girl had come to her maternal home a few days after the marriage. During this time she consumed poisonous substances.
What happened on the day of the incident?
It is being said that there was a Bhandara program in the village and the rest of the family members had gone there. The girl and her husband were present at home. Both of them were about to get ready and go to the program when suddenly the girl’s health started deteriorating. She complained of stomach ache and ran to her mother. There she said that she had taken “medicine”. On hearing this, the family members immediately took her to the hospital, but she died during treatment.
What did the husband tell the police?
The girl’s husband told the police that even after marriage she remained mentally disturbed. Her father died last year, after which she often felt sad and cried remembering her father. According to the husband, he too was not aware that the girl had consumed poison.
How was the truth about age revealed in police investigation?
During the investigation of the case, initially the girl’s maternal grandfather had stated that her age was 18 years. But when the police became suspicious, the Aadhaar card was checked. In the documents, the girl’s age was found to be 13 years. After this the matter became more serious. The police are now investigating keeping in mind child marriage and other legal aspects.
Did the family lodge any complaint?
At present, no complaint has been filed against anyone by the family. Police say that further action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem report and other facts. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the village after this incident and people are calling it a very sad incident.
